Wirex is a favorite Bitcoin debit card company based in London and has been trading as E-Coin since 2014. Their debit card enables users to shop both in physical and online stores. You can choose between a virtual Visa card, which you can use in online stores, or a physical Mastercard you can use in physical stores. The physical card comes complete with chip and pin and is accepted anywhere Mastercard is accepted.
Advantages of the Wirex Bitcoin debit card
The physical card can be shipped to 130 countries across the world, so there is a good chance you can benefit from it where you live.
Wirex comes with a mobile app so you can quickly and easily check your balance and make transfers. You can also use it to exchange cryptocurrency for fiat money or vice versa. Finally, the app enables you to send money to other apps like PayPal.
Wirex take your security seriously and gives users the option to enable 2-factor authentication. Users are also verified to protect them from theft and fraud.
The Wirex card is a fully fledged debit card in the UK, which means that you don’t have to preload it before you can use it. It places your money in a current account, and you’ll have both sort code and account number.
Finally, you will earn 0.5% cash-back (or token-back, as you get paid in crypto) when you use the Wirex card in-store.
Disadvantages of the Wirex Bitcoin debit card
While the physical Wirex debit card can be sent to 130 countries, it can take up to eight weeks to arrive.
The verification process for security purposes can be slightly longer to complete, which is off-putting to some customers. The process requires several documents to prove your identity and can take up to ten days.
Only UK users have access to the “real” Visa card. US carriers and other European carriers will have to preload the card before using it.
Wirex Bitcoin debit card fees
There is a $1 (or £1/€1) monthly service charge regardless which card you choose. The physical plastic card comes with an additional $17 cost for being issued. ATM withdrawals cost a flat rate of $2.50 when used at home, and $3.50 when used abroad.

Wirex is overall one of the more attractive options when it comes to Bitcoin debit cards, particularly for UK customers. The fees are pretty much in line with the other providers, and there is good support for both crypto and fiat currencies. Users who prefer anonymity, however, will be disappointed as there is a lot of identity verification. Full disclosure: I just ordered my own Wirex card, as I like their verification process and customer support.
